Extensive deforestation creates a number of environmental problems, as trees are habitats for many animal and insect species. Forests also prevent soil erosion and act as ‘carbon sinks.’ Through photosynthesis, trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and recycle it into oxygen – helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.”
