Hyssop
What's Inside?
Hyssop, or Hyssopus officinalis, is a long-used sacred herb in the mint family. This flowering evergreen plant is resistant to drought and can be found in Europe and throughout the Middle East. Hyssop has a lovely and intoxicating smell, similar to mint, and pairs well with lemon and other fruit flavors. It is commonly used to flavor liquors as well as in seasonings for many Middle Eastern recipes.
Hyssop has been used for centuries as a purifying herb. The word Hyssop comes from the Greek word “azob” which translates to “holy herb”. Hyssop is mentioned in the Holy Bible several times, which demonstrates its long-recorded history of use. While this herb is rich in history, it is equally rich in flavonoid content which makes it a great broad spectrum herbal remedy. Traditionally, it is used to help open airways and promote respiratory health.
