Chia Seeds
What's Inside?
Chia seeds are harvested from the Salvia hispanica L. plant and are a nutritious and functional food source. The tiny, nutty tasting seeds are commonly added as an ingredient to baked goods and other snacks to improve their health benefits. Chia seeds have been used for centuries in Central America where they were once a major farming staple.Â
Chia seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids and are a complete protein, meaning they contain all nine essential amino acids. Omega-3’s are known to help improve cardiovascular health*, which make these tiny power-packed seeds a great addition to your daily meals. Because chia seeds absorb water at a fast rate (10x their weight in liquid), it is advised to not consume dry chia seeds by themselves. They are best consumed when already soaked in a liquid, or mixed in with foods like yogurt, oatmeal and smoothies.
